Building on the technologies that made possible our cameras and electrophotography, we are further enhancing our image technologies by adding next-generation devices that will input/output, transmit, and store both image and video information.
The key to achieving such devices is technologies with precision at the nano scale of 1/100,000 mm and 1/1,000,000 mm. The role played by these technologies will continue to grow in the network society, as well as in Japan, where the birth rate is
declining even as the population of senior citizens rises. Canon is promoting research in this field with an emphasis on developing semiconductor lithography technologies to produce core devices to support the information network community, and to provide
measuring/processing equipment for advanced medical treatment.
