REACH enforces review of the properties of chemicals, identifying the associated health and environmental risks and ensures that information is communicated to suppliers and downstream users. The objective of the REACH regulations are to promote phased substitution of the most dangerous substances. The first deadline for the pre-registration of substances runs from June 1, 2008 to December 1, 2008. In line with Canon’s principles on environmental responsibility, the company takes a proactive approach towards legal compliance, especially with regard to health and environment. Under the REACH regulations, Canon is preparing pre-registration. Close relations will be maintained with the supply chain, to ensure that the implementation of REACH will follow the regulation’s requirements.
