MTN Africa Cup of Nations 2008

As part of our long-standing support of football, Canon was once again Official Sponsor of the MTN Africa Cup of Nations 2008 football tournament - the premier pan-African sporting event.

Canon’s support of the MTN Africa Cup of Nations gave fresh evidence of our ongoing commitment to the emerging markets in the Middle East and African regions.

The MTN Africa Cup of Nations has a reputation as one of the most vibrant and entertaining sporting events in the world.  The latest tournament was held in Ghana from 20th January  to 10th February  2008 and saw some of the best players in the world produce three weeks of exhilarating football watched by a global TV audience in its billions.

This year’s competition saw the host nation Ghana make to the last four, going down 1-0 to Cameroon in the first semi final. Egypt overcame the Ivory Coast 4-1 in the other semi final to set up a final clash with Cameroon.  Egypt beat Cameroon 1-0 to retain the trophy they won at home in the 2004 tournament. They get the chance to go for three in a row in 2010 when the tournament will be co-hosted by Angola.
