New trio adds improved design, resolution and performance to Canon’s scanner range

Canoscan 5600F
Amstelveen, The Netherlands, 26th August, 2008: Canon is launching a trio of new models into its existing range of CanoScan scanners. All three stylish additions bring fresh features and functionality to an already successful line-up, as well as being able to boast fast scan speeds and improved resolutions. All models have eye-catching contemporary designs and will make the perfect addition to any home or office setup.

There are two new LiDE scanners amid the trio, the CanoScan LiDE 100 and the CanoScan LiDE 200, both of which have increased resolutions on the models they replace (the CanoScan LiDE 25 and CanoScan LiDE 90 respectively). There is also the CanoScan 5600F, technically a very different scanner to the
CanoScan LiDE 600F that it replaces, as this new model is a CCD-scanner.

Shared features
One of the key features across all three scanners is the Auto Scan Mode. This amazingly simple and useful function automatically recognises the type of document or photo while canning and saves using the optimal settings – with one-click operation for added ease of use.

Users looking for great functionality and ease of use will be delighted at the inclusion of EZ buttons. These one-touch buttons – which are can be configured by the user – are for the scanner’s most common tasks. The four EZ buttons on the CanoScan LiDE 100 and CanoScan LiDE 200 cover Copy, Scan, Email and PDF, while the high-end CanoScan 5600F model has seven EZ buttons: Copy, Scan, Email and four to cover the creation of Multi-Page PDF documents.

Improved resolution and scan speeds
The CanoScan LiDE 100 now features a 2400x4800dpi resolution with 48-bit colour, and has a 300dpi scan speed for an A4 document in approx 24 seconds. This entry-level model has a compact design and black colour scheme. It is supplied with intuitive software that reduces dust and scratches from photos and images bringing them to life and improving their overall look.

The CanoScan LiDE 200, with its silver-grey finish, builds on the features of the CanoScan LiDE 100 with an increased resolution of 4800x4800dpi and an improved scan speed for a colour A4 document or photo of 14 seconds. Like the CanoScan LiDE 100 it benefits from dust and scratch reduction software. Users looking for simple, effective operation will also be pleased to find that there’s no need for an AC adaptor with the CanoScan LiDE 100 or CanoScan LiDE 200. Both offer a single USB connection between scanner and PC.

The impressive CanoScan 5600F offers an incredibly high level of functionality and is geared towards premium level users, as it includes film scanning and white LED technology. There is six-frame support for 35mm strip (negative or positive) and four-frame support for 35mm slide (negative or positive). It has a 4800x9600dpi resolution with 48-bit colour and offers 300dpi A4 scans in just 11 seconds.

High-brightness white LED technology is used as a light source for reflective scans and enables the scanner to start up immediately with Zero Warm-Up, it also removes the need to keep the lamp lit – so therefore saves power.

Software solutions
The MP Navigator EX 2.0 software is supplied across all three models and delivers a range of functions that allows users to manage and enhance their photos and documents. It is possible to add passwords to PDF files, classify and view images and to apply correction such as gutter shadow correction for books.

“Scanner technology is constantly moving forward and Canon is glad to be at the forefront of this. Our new models all offer practical functionality, creative features and contemporary design,” said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging, Europe.
