Product Advisory FC1, FC2, FC22 Customer Information

We would like to inform you that Canon Inc. has today issued a product advisory for compact copier products, FC-1, FC-2 and FC-22, manufactured and marketed between 1990 and 1994, as a result of a reported customer incident in Japan.

Over time, a phenomenon known as “tracking” can occur on the surface of the circuit boards, used in these products.   Tracking refers to a process in which factors such as dust or humidity can result in a weak electrical current, in a location where electricity was not originally supposed to flow, creating a conductive carbon path.

While the risk is remote, tracking could result in smoke emission or fire, but following simulation tests, it is unlikely to spread outside the machine, as it is encased in flame retardant material.

There have been no reported incidents of this nature in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

And although the products in question are at least 13 years old, Canon Europe is advising customers of the situation, to ensure that all affected customers can continue using these products with confidence.

Canon will offer free inspections and will undertake preventative measures on these products.   In order to arrange this please contact your local Canon office.

Our commitment to customer satisfaction is always paramount, so please accept our apologies for any inconvenience resulting from this issue.
