Canon recognised by Buyers Laboratory Inc for its Large Format Printer range

AMSTELVEEN, MARCH 9, 2009 – Canon Europe, world leader in imaging solutions, has announced today that it has won an accolade from Buyers Laboratory Inc (BLI) for its 44in Canon imagePROGRAF iPF820 for its multi-purpose printing capabilities in its latest “Pick” selection.

  • Canon imagePROGRAF iPF820 awarded Buyers Laboratory 2008 Fall  “Pick” award

  • Commended for being the “Outstanding Wide-format Colour Inkjet Multipurpose Printer”

  • BLI recognises the print industry’s outstanding performers

The award comes on the back of the success of the 24” Canon imagePROGRAF iPF6100 at the Spring BLI 2008 “Pick” awards. BLI (www.buyerslab.com) is the industry's leading independent authority and provider of competitive intelligence, testing and reviews on multi-function (MFP), copier, printer and fax products as well as large format printers (LFPs).

The Canon imagePROGRAF iPF820 won the award due to its capability to satisfy the needs of both the technical and graphic arts markets, with its advanced product features. The dual-roll Canon imagePROGRAF iPF820 is able to quickly switch between paper types and offers excellent paper handling and ease of use, accommodating both sheet- and roll-media. The Canon imagePROGRAF iPF820’s print driver was also commended for numerous features, including the Free Layout function and borderless printing, along with Canon’s Print Plug-In for Microsoft Word.

Designed for the CAD, GIS, Print-for-Pay and Production markets, the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF820 uses five-colour dye and pigment print heads combining fast output production speeds with efficient ink usage and a low total cost of ownership. Launched last year, is a hugely versatile device with the ability to produce accurate, high quality prints in both colour and black & white on a wide variety of media.

David Sweetnam, BLI European Lab and Research Manager said; “BLI recognises the print industry’s outstanding performers and we are pleased to award the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF820 with the latest ‘Pick’ awards. The device displayed very good print quality across a wide-range of applications, from maps and architectural plans printed on standard bond paper to high-quality photographs printed on Canon’s premium photo papers. Canon continues to support the market with its high-quality printers.”

Alongside the accolade for the imagePROGRAF iPF820, BLI also awarded Canon the ‘MFP Line of the Year’ award 2008 for the sixth time since 2000, as well as receiving four Fall 2008 “Pick” awards for its office line of multi-function printers.

Yuichi Miyano, European marketing director for Canon's Large Format Solutions said, “Over the last five years Canon has made significant inroads into the Large Format Printer market, against some of the longer established players. It’s a fantastic testament to Canon’s leading technology and strength in the market that BLI recognised this with another ‘Pick’ award.

“Our customers have a variety of different requirements from their large format printing and Canon is able to offer a suitable device to support any of these needs. Canon is committed to expanding its portfolio of Large Format Printers and grow its market share over the next year and this award from BLI shows that we are steadily moving it that direction.”
