  • Development partners, such as NT-Ware, help Canon Europe reach milestone for sales of embedded applications in 2008

Adam Gillbe, European Solutions Marketing Manager, Canon Europe said, “In speaking and listening to our customers’ changing document management needs, we understood that they required a unique approach. Developing a software platform for our devices where applications can be embedded on an MFP rather than a PC or central server was a major development, not just for Canon Europe, but for the industry as a whole. Sales of embedded applications on Canon MFPs grew 60 per cent in 2008 from the previous year, to over 25,000. Such positive figures are testament to the strength and importance of the strategic relationships Canon Europe holds with its skilled development partners.”

The Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform (MEAP) was the first operating system of its kind when it was launched by Canon in 2003. The market-leading platform enables Canon and its development partners to design and embed applications within an MFP, allowing for more efficient workflow and collaboration in the workplace. Canon’s range of applications support current business processes, enabling its customers to benefit from fully flexible document capture, management and distribution solutions and maximise productivity.

Canon Europe currently offers a focused portfolio of applications, developed internally and by its partners, which can be embedded directly on a Canon MFP. The portfolio supports a range of workflow needs from document management, including capture, access and distribution, to document and print security and accounting. Canon’s most successful application, uniFLOW Output Manager, developed by NT-Ware, represents almost half of all the applications sold. uniFLOW allows businesses to control costs through efficient print processes, while also granting greater control over print security.

Gillbe continues, “By integrating software into the workplace to support daily processes, businesses will improve efficiency. eCopy, for example, enables users to scan and save documents directly to a specific location as well as sharing them with colleagues with the touch of a button, saving both time and money.

“We will continue to leverage the strength and knowledge of our specialist partners to ensure that our customers have access to market-leading business solutions that improve their working practises, promote security and cut costs.”
