Three new black and white light production printers offer increased versatility and print quality for CRDs and ‘print-for-pay’ environments More finishing options, faster warm-up time and the availability of both Fierybased and Canon genuine PostScript 3 controllers on all three newmodels result in higher productivity First monochrome engines for the professional print market developed on Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE technology platform
As with their colour counterparts, the three newmodels - named the imageRUNNER ADVANCE 8085, 8095 and 8105 to reflect their respective running speeds of 85, 95 and 105 pages perminute - address the needs of professional print service providers with lower volume production requirements than those of imagePRESS customers. Immediately familiar to any imageRUNNER ADVANCE C9000 PRO user, the modular build of the new devices makes them extremely versatile, both in terms of footprint and the range of applications for which they can be used. For example, whether a university needs an entry-level machine to produce a simple, stapled black and white examination paper, or a company needs a fully configured light production machine for much larger documents with complex finishing, the new monochrome imageRUNNER ADVANCE provides an exceptionally cost-effective solution. The imageRUNNER ADVANCE 8000 models deliver high productivity and image quality, with a maximum image resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi. They can handle paper stocks up to 256gsm (up to 220gsm duplex) and sheet sizes larger than SRA3, a notable improvement over the Canon iR7000 series, which they will now replace. Additional performance improvements over the iR7000 are provided by the new finishing options and faster warm-up time, and the availability of a Canon controller offering genuine, rather than emulated, Adobe PostScript 3 on all three new models. The printers can be fitted either with a Fiery-based imagePASS-U1 RIP, or an optional Canon Adobe PostScript or PCL (Printer Control Language) RIP, depending on the production environment. Addressing the trend towards smaller but more complex print jobs, the monochrome imageRUNNER ADVANCE series comes with the same broad range of finishing options as the popular colour imageRUNNER ADVANCE PRO series: professional punching, stapling up to 100 sheets, saddle stitching up to 20 sheets, booklet trimming, and five types of folding (Z-fold, letter fold in, letter fold out, half fold and double parallel fold). The devices have been assessed through Canon’s Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) product design system to minimise the carbon emissions throughout its entire life from manufacture to logistics and delivery to energy consumption during use. Incorporating green technologies such as recycled plastics and bio plastics, the new series is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 30% over previous models. The monochrome imageRUNNER ADVANCE 8000 series is expected to offer the lowest Total Energy Consumption in its class (TEC, as defined by ENERGY STAR®) and complies with the RoHS directive. The new models offer increased energy efficiency, consuming over 50%* less energy than previous models, using only 1.5 watts in sleepmode. David Preskett, Director of Professional Print for Canon Europe comments: “Since the launch of the colour light production imageRUNNER ADVANCE PRO last autumn, we’ve seen exceptional demand for these machines with shipments passing the 250mark within six weeks of the launch. Feedback from our customers is that these machines respond to their need for high productivity and quality, but with lower capital outlay, reduced risk and more rapid return on investment. They like the flexibility to scale up their capabilities as their customer profile and workmix changes, or as digital volumes grow. It was therefore a natural move for Canon to introduce the new black and white models, which will provide the same user benefits and will therefore, we believe, be a very attractive proposition for CRDs in particular.” The monochrome imageRUNNER ADVANCE series will be sold through Canon’s direct sales organisations in Europe, and also through its network of accredited dealers, with the ability to provide the quality of consultancy, service and after-sales support associated with the Canon brand. David Preskett concludes: “As we know fromour own research, CRDs are increasingly looking to bring more print production in-house to deliver greater cost savings and so improve the business performance of their host organisations. Combining the versatility and print quality of the new black and white imageRUNNER ADVANCE with
workflow and applications software - such as Helix ProductionWorkflow - our Essential Business Builder support programme and Canon’s after-sales care, we’re confident that Canon is better placed than ever to work hand in hand with CRDs to exploit existing digital growth opportunities and to inspire themto make the leap to new ones.” In addition to the imageRUNNER ADVANCE 8000 series, Canon is today also launching the imageRUNNER ADVANCE 6000 series (See separate press release for details). Offering output speeds of 55, 65 and 75 pages per minute, the six new devices have been designed for office environments of all sizes and for large corporate organisations in particular. They deliver improved efficiency, security, integration and lower environmental impact, and will integrate seamlessly into existing IT and document workflows to create the ultimate ‘digital office’.
