London, 23 June 2010 – Canon Europe, world leader in imaging solutions, today announced that customers purchased over 100 large format devices from Canon at Ipex 2010, exceeding expectations and validating Canon’s latest industry research (Redefinition of the digital printer), which revealed that 44% of Western European respondents intended to invest in large format solutions in 2010.

Supported on the stand by nine alliance partners, such as GMG and Contex, Canon’s large format engines formed a key part of the total live production workflow demonstrated by Canon and were of major interest to commercial printers and CRDs looking to make an initial move into digital print or to exploit the business potential of large format applications. This approach again affirmed the trend identified in Canon’s survey, in which 86% of respondents commented that moving into wide format printing had helped them remain profitable during the economic downturn. Canon’s large format printers at the show included the recently announced imagePROGRAF iPF8300 and iPF6350, the latter of which has already been awarded TIPA’s ‘Best Large Format Printer’ for 2010. All models in the new range have also recently received the highest possible rating from BERTL (the US analyst) by delivering outstanding quality in areas such as image quality, price and security. Making their first appearance at an exhibition, the imagePROGRAF iPF8300 and iPF6350 were a strong draw and visitor feedback indicated that the output quality and image precision of the new models made them serious considerations as colour proofing solutions. Shane Burchett, European Marketing Professional, Large Format Solutions, Canon Europe, commented: “In the wake of the results of Canon’s latest research, we came to Ipex 2010 with high hopes of having a successful show for our large format solutions. I’m delighted to report that customer interest was such that our expectations were far exceeded, clearly showing the growing demand for high quality, large format prints in the professional photographic, proofing and fine art markets as print service providers look to improve business performance by making the leap into new areas.” Maintaining its commitment to the professional print industry, Canon will next be demonstrating its range of innovative large format solutions at FESPA 2010 in Munich from 22nd to 26th June 2010.
