Sales exceed targets as Canon announces its most successful Ipex ever

Canon IPEX 2010 London, 23 June 2010 - Canon’s decision to take its largest ever stand at Ipex this year has paid dividends. The company today announced its most successful Ipex ever, having signed sales contracts for well in excess of 300 systems during the eight day show and exceeding its unit sales targets with an increase of nearly 40% over four years ago at Ipex 2006. Canon also hosted a strong international delegation, with sales leads coming from customers in over 100 countries. While UK sales comprised a significant portion of the overall figure, over 75% of sales were secured from European visitors outside the UK, with notable contributions coming from customers in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, France, Germany, Scandinavia.

  • Over 300 systems sold

  • 100+ imagePRESS production engines bought on stand (reflecting the growth in demand for colour)

  • Increase of nearly 40% in systems sold over Ipex 2006

  • Strong international order book and visitor numbers

  • Over 2,000 personalised Lego and Milka Chocolate boxes produced

Canon’s imagePRESS digital presses proved to be very popular at Ipex 2010, with customers buying over 35% more colour imagePRESSes than they did at Ipex 2006.  Over 100 systems were sold during the 2010 exhibition, with the colour engines seeing the majority of the sales.  Interest in Canon’s imagePRESSes was only surpassed by the demand for its light production colour and monochrome imageRUNNER ADVANCE series, resulting in sales of almost 180 engines.  There was also strong customer reaction to its comprehensive portfolio of advanced professional print solutions on display, where specific customer applications demonstrated the flexibility of how both Canon technology and its unique partnership approach can make a real value added difference to its customer’s business success.

Canon’s Helix Production Workflow generated much interest with its version 2.0 launched at the show attracting many early orders.  In addition, its modular Essential Business Builder Program of business development consultancy, offered as an integral part of every solution sold, proved popular amongst customers looking beyond the technology alone, for a partner that can work with them to help introduce new business opportunities and revenue streams.

Canon was also joined by a host of technology partners as well as customers demonstrating their own unique print applications, which saw a rush for orders of 2,000+ personalised boxes of Lego and Milka chocolates, which were personalised, printed and finished on the stand.

David Preskett, European Professional Print Director, Canon Europe, comments: “We came to Ipex 2010 with high hopes and I’m delighted to report that those hopes have been more than fulfilled.  Footfall on our stand was consistently high, and visitors came from all over Europe to invest and make a positive business leap.  Over the course of the show we exceeded our targets, with over 300 production and light production print systems sold, supported by strong solution sales, including Helix Production Workflow.”

Preskett continues, “As the newly appointed President of Ipex 2014, I’m also delighted for Ipex that the show was such a success for the industry as a whole, and I look forward to helping to replicate that success in 2014.”
