Canon brings versatility and simplicity to the personal scanner market with the DR-2020U

LONDON, September 01, 2009 – Canon Europe, world leader in digital imaging technology, today announced the launch of the Canon imageFORMULA DR-2020U universal personal scanner with three different scanning options.

·         The Canon imageFORMULA DR-2020U has three scanning options providing the flexibility to scan large documents, books, delicate documents and business cards

·         Ideal for the SoHo and general office segments with its compact, sleek black design and fast scanning speeds

Designed for the general office and SoHo markets, the DR-2020U features a compact, attractive exterior with a sleek black finish. Individual users that have diverse scanning needs - such as receptionists and personal assistants - will find the DR-2020U easy to use and enable them to work more efficiently through its quick speeds and versatile scanning options.

Users can either stack up to 50 sheets with the automatic document feeder for fast batch scanning, or manually copy delicate documents or books using the flatbed scanner. Additionally users are able to load up to 15 business cards into a dedicated business card feeder for the quick capture of business contact information. The bundled BizCard software can convert this vital contact information into a convenient, searchable digital database, such as a mail contacts folder, for fast retrieval and improved management.

Sean Suematsu, European Document Scanning Solutions Director, Canon Europe says, “Due to the universal scanning options, the DR-2020U is perfectly suited for personal assistants and office workers who need to efficiently scan a wide range of documents on a daily basis. The sleek black design coupled with its compact size also makes it an appealing choice for reception areas, where it is likely to be on public view.

“It’s expected that the European high speed document scanner market will experience double-digit growth over the next few years as organisations realise the business benefits of effective document management. In anticipation, Canon has introduced the DR-2020U specifically for the general office and SoHo audience who require scanners that have easy scan operation and versatile scanning capabilities to be able to handle a wide range of documents.”

The DR-2020U is capable of scanning at a rapid 20 pages per minute in colour (40 images per minute in duplex mode) without compromising on image quality.  Batches of documents can be quickly and reliably captured and shared improving access to information and productivity for offices or departments.

Users unfamiliar with scanning will also find the DR-2020U scanner quick and easy to use. The DR-2020U has a user-friendly intuitive operation panel that has, for example, illustrated buttons for frequent scanning tasks, such a scan-to-email, scan-to-folders and scan-to-printer. Combine this with Canon’s latest CaptureOnTouch software and previous complex scanning tasks can now be executed with just a “one touch” operation, simplifying the scanning process, reducing errors and saving valuable time.

Businesses that need to send image files directly into SharePoint or other applications with Canon’s scanners are now able to do this with the latest version of the bundled PaperPort software. Other useful software provided with the DR-2020U includes Canon’s CapturePerfect 3.0, Presto! BizCard, Nuance OmniPage and Adobe Acrobat Standard edition.

The DR-2020U is expected to be available across Europe in Q4, 2009.
