Canon sees 80% increase in uptake of consultative workshops as printers redefine their business

LONDON, 8 November 2010. Canon Europe, world leader in imaging solutions, has announced an 80% increase in the number of companies taking part in its Essential Business Builder Program from the first half of 2009 to the same period of 2010. Designed to help customers develop their print business, over 450 print service providers from around Europe have benefited from active involvement in Canon’s Essential Business Builder Program in the first half of 2010 alone.

  • 80% increase in participation in Canon’s Essential Business Builder Program

  • Over 450 print service providers around Europe have participated in the Program’s courses and consultancy days in the first half of 2010

  • Increased uptake from CRDs seeking to improve their efficiency and business value

The programme of educational workshops and bespoke consultancy is designed to help print service providers grow their organisations by developing new revenue streams and improving business performance. Each workshop is delivered by an independent specialist from the printing industry and aims to help companies expand their business by providing insight and motivation on topics including, ‘Business Planning’, ‘Web to Print’ and ‘Selling Digital Print’.

Niklas Nilsson, Managing Director of Swedish print service provider Printus, commented, “We attend Business Builder events whenever we can to pick up the latest news, hear the latest thinking, and generally confirm that we’re moving in the right direction.  It keeps us thinking, and helps generate new business ideas.”

The growth of the Business Builder Program reflects Canon’s ongoing commitment to providing its customers with the best chance of success when making a leap in new business directions. Offering guidance in the creation of comprehensive business plans and helping them develop new markets, processes and revenue streams, customers are embracing the chance to receive the business expertise and guidance offered by independent consultants.

Canon has also observed a significant increase in the number of in-house operations eager to gain an insight from its exclusive Business Builder modules, which include highlights from Canon’s CRD-focused Insight Report, Corporate Reprographics Trends & Opportunities, as well as guidance on implementing web-to-print solutions in CRD environments.

“Our workshops are designed for business managers in all sorts of professional print environments, and we have seen an increase in course popularity right across the board,” says Chas Blanchard, product marketing manager, Canon Europe. “The growth in CRD uptake has been particularly strong as print departments realise the need to develop their operations in order to improve their own business value, and the efficiency of their company as a whole.”

Explaining why Business Builder courses and consultancy days have increased in popularity, Peter Lancaster, owner of W2P Ltd, and an expert in Web to Print (W2P) strategy and implementation says, “Businesses may be thinking “we know we have to go online but we must still generate cash whilst devoting enough time and effort to make the transition. How can we avoid the pitfalls and create an effective plan that we could actually execute?” Canon offers these businesses the advice of independent experts. As the reputation of the Business Builder Program grows, they trust Canon more and more to direct them to consultants who can answer questions like these.”

“Canon’s Essential Business Builder Program has been a huge help,” says Neil Long, Managing Director of Longridge Print in the UK. “The two W2P modules are excellent – I recommend them to anyone who thinks that W2P is all about business cards and property marketing. They really open your eyes to the potential.”

Blanchard concludes, “To help customers take the next leap forward with their business plans, Canon believes it is essential to provide them with business guidance and support in addition to our digital technology and expertise. This is what our Essential Business Builder Program provides and explains its growing popularity.”
