Canon’s first ultra-short throw projector – the LV-8235 UST – offers more installation options than ever before

LONDON, 05 September, 2011 – Canon Europe, world-leader in imaging solutions, announces the launch of the LV-8235 UST (ultra-short throw) projector, featuring one of the shortest projection throws available on the market.

  • Ultra-short throw distance means users can now install a projector in the widest range of positions, with minimal shadow and glare

  • Ideal for use in the education sector with interactive whiteboards and includes a built-in 10W speaker

  • 3D-ready, using Frame Sequential Display Method

The latest addition to Canon’s LV range can project high-quality images at 2500 lumens from extremely short distances, giving users more freedom to install the device in a variety of locations.  An 80 inch image can be projected when the device is only 2.4cm* away from the screen, giving access to positions that were previously difficult to project from on ceilings, walls or floors.

Particularly beneficial to education and business environments is the device’s close proximity to the screen which ensures that limited shadows are cast and that light does not shine in a presenter’s eyes.  The built-in 10W speaker is loud enough to be heard in meeting rooms or classrooms, without the need for an external audio system, while the 3000 hours lamp life (in Eco mode) means that minimum maintenance is required, and total ownership costs are kept down.

Auto Set and Auto PC adjustment features mean that set up is quick and easy, with the device configured to project from a range of digital and widescreen sources: the LV-8235 UST offers HDMI input and WXGA (a widescreen resolution of 1280 x 800 and 16:10 ratio) for use with laptops.

The LV-8235 UST is also ideal for use with interactive whiteboards, popular in the education sector, and its Colour Correct Function means that natural colours are still reproduced, even when projecting onto a coloured surface or blackboard.  A high contrast ratio of 2000:1 allows the device to produce deep blacks and vivid images.

Other applications for the ultra-short throw device vary from low-cost installations at museums, exhibitions and attractions to digital signage, with image size ranging from 60 inches to a maximum of 110 inches.

The LV-8235 UST can also be used in a cost-effective way to create rear-projection images, for example, retailers can use it to display store front campaigns and project promotions through a shop window on to a pavement to attract passers-by.

Julian Rutland, Canon’s Visual Communication Product and Solutions Director says: “The ultra-short throw projector market is growing rapidly, as more and more organisations benefit from creating impactful projections in even the smallest spaces. The LV-8235 UST is ideal for businesses ranging from advertisers to educators, bringing cutting-edge technology within an accessible price range and opening up new possibilities for display.”

For an alternative learning experience or to bring displays to life, the LV-8235 UST is also 3D-ready using the Frame Sequential Display Method. This method switches images intended for the left eye and right eye at very high speed and requires active shutter type glasses.

The LV-8235 UST will be available across Europe from November 2011.
