New innovations from Canon strengthen its leadership in imaging technology

EOS 7D Digital SLR camera
LONDON, 7 September 2009 - Canon has reaffirmed its commitment to innovation in product development with the launch of 38 consumer products ranging from an innovative new Digital SLR camera in its flagship EOS range to a germ resistant calculator.

Key product innovations launched include:

New Digital SLR camera with advanced CMOS sensor
The new EOS 7D digital SLR camera is a completely new design to meet the specific demands of photographers. Incorporating a new 18 MP APS-C CMOS Sensor, developed by Canon, the EOS 7D also features: Dual “DIGIC 4” processors to offer fast, high-quality performance in all light conditions, an ISO range expandable to 12,800 and continuous shooting at 8 frames per second – without the need for additional accessories.   Impressive technologies are matched by excellent build-quality designed with the photographer in mind – to create a whole new photographic experience.

During extensive development Canon went back to the drawing board, listening to photographers worldwide in order to design the EOS 7D to meet their specific needs. Commenting on the creation of the EOS 7D, Mr Uchidoi, Group Executive of Photo Products Group, Canon Inc. Japan said “We consulted over 5,000 photographers worldwide and asked them what they most wanted to see from a camera.  Matching this insight with cutting-edge technology, we were able to develop a camera that truly gives photographers the versatile tool they require to experiment with their images.”

The Compact for Professionals
The Canon PowerShot G11 is the successor to the multi-award winning PowerShot G10 compact camera, endorsed by professional photographic agencies and photo journalists alike.  With a host of stunning new features, the new PowerShot G11 combines lightweight build with improved picture quality while the enhanced image processing technology greatly reduces noise performance. The discreet look and size is ideal for active photo journalists to get the shots they need whilst immersed in unpredictable environments.

Touch Screen Technology
The new Digital IXUS 200 IS features Canon’s first ever touch screen display that delivers intuitive control to the customer and greater ease of use. The Digital IXUS 200 IS also includes Canon’s first 24mm wide angle, 5x zoom lens and is packed with the most up to date Canon technology including Smart Auto and the capability to shoot HD video.

Pocket-sized Power House
Marking the return of the Canon PowerShot S-series, the PowerShot S90 continues the PowerShot S-series tradition with impressive, fully manual features that deliver excellent image quality and user experience. New features include a wide angle lens and a new intuitive lens control ring, which enables users to adjust the settings of various functions and also acts as a quasi-manual zoom.

Voice Guidance Printer
The new SELPHY ES40 is the first printer which talks to you. Providing spoken instructions on how to operate the printer in seven different languages, the guidance will also provide troubleshooting advice to assist users of all ages to simplify the printing process.

24 hour Filming
Canon has also added two new models to its LEGRIA camcorder series. The new LEGRIA HF S11 now sits at the top of the range, combining pro-level features with Canon’s best-ever HD camera system. The HF S11 also features Dual Flash Memory recording, which combines generous internal storage with removable SDHC flash memory cards to offer users maximum flexibility.  With its market-leading 64GB of internal flash memory storage, the HF S11 offers enough space to capture a full 24 hours of video in LP mode, while SDHC compatibility enables users to expand available storage by another 32GB - creating enough memory for a day and a half of footage overall.

Joining the LEGRIA range is a new HD camcorder, ideal  for families - the new LEGRIA HF21. Boasting 64GB internal flash memory in a pocket-sized and super stylish design, the HF21 also features Canon’s new Dynamic Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) for shake free footage when filming on the move – whether walking, jogging or climbing. Combined with Canon’s 15x optical zoom HD Video Lens, a 3.3 megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV III image processor, the HF21 delivers outstandingly smooth HD quality video footage and striking, rich still images.

Germ Free Calculating
Canon has also announced a calculator designed with a germ fighting agent mixed into the plastic of its keys and upper casing, which inhibits the growth of bacteria. This makes it ideal for hospitals, schools, restaurants, offices or in the home. The lower case of the HS -121TGA calculator is made from 100% recycled Canon copier materials.

The above highlights are just a small selection of the wide range of products just announced by Canon.  The company has also just announced further Digital IXUS and PowerShot cameras, PIXMA inkjet and i-SENSYS laser printers, a video surveillance camera and XEED HD projector products which will all be available on sale in the coming months.  For full details and images please refer to www.canon-europe.com/press
