Megapixels for Mega Pictures
Megapixels determine the amount of sharp detail your camera can record. A 4.0 Megapixel sensor provides enough resolution for finely detailed, photo quality prints up to A4 size. Sensors of 8.0 Megapixels and higher can deliver detailed prints up to an incredible A2 size. And with a 12.1 Megapixel sensor, you can make ultra-large prints - or crop sections from pictures while retaining the level of detail needed for a high quality print.
The Image Resize function in selected models enables you to conserve space on the camera’s memory card. Images taken with a large number of recording pixels can be saved as a smaller image and the original deleted, giving you more space for extra photos.
The Megapixel advantage
12.1 Megapixel sensors give you greater flexibility in shooting and playback, offering high quality image output even when magnified. Two features found across the range, Safety Zoom and Digital Tele-Converter, are optimised for use with 12.1 Megapixel sensors. The Digital Tele-Converter gives the camera even greater zoom range, while Safety Zoom ensures that image quality is maintained by warning you when further zooming would degrade image quality for your chosen image size.
