Image Quality checks & Error Codes

Depending on the cause for quality related issues, the guidance described within this section is designed to enhance and maximise the performance of the iPF series* Large Format Print Head.

During the print head Life cycle, image quality issues may arise that could relate to the way the nozzles behave. Below are some points to consider when print quality is affected by the Performance of the print head:

  • Checking the print quality.
  • Improving the print quality.
  • Nozzle Checks for ink clogging.
  • Print head cleaning
  • Print head Colour Calibration
  • Correct procedure for replacing the print head

When replacing the printhead, please execute the “Replace P.Head under the Maintenance section of the Menu key on the control panel. This will ensure correct functionality checks are executed during the replacement procedure. 

Checking Print Quality

If the print quality is faint, streaking or colour imbalance is noted, the imagePROGRAF iPF series is equipped with User Adjustments to maintain print head performance.

These checks include:

  • Nozzle Check Test Page to help identify clogging
  • Head Cleaning functions to thoroughly maintain Print Head Performance
  • Automatic Print Head Alignment
  • Automatic Head Height Adjustment
  • Colour Calibration adjustments to optimise consistent print output. (This adjustment is only available for iPF 5100 / 6000S/6100/6200/8000S/8100/9000S/9100/650/655/750/755/810/820 Series

Please ensure that all the above checks are carried out and adjustments are executed in accordance to the manufacturer instructions. For further detail on how to maintain the print head, please consult the User Manual of your printer.

Should print quality issues persist that relate to the print head, you may be eligible to claim a replacement under the Print head Warranty Terms and Conditions.  For further information, please click here for the iPF series* Print head Warranty Claim form.

If print quality does not improve after the print head is replaced, please contact your service provider for further advice.

Error Codes:

  • If the printer displays an Error Code that relates to the print head, below are some checks to follow:
  • Turn off device and switch back on
  • If device is able to boot up to ‘Online Status’, generate a status print and retain this for validation purposes
  • Nozzle check test page to help identify clogging
  • Head cleaning functions to thoroughly maintain print head performance.
  • Automatic print head alignment
  • Automatic head height adjustment.
  • Colour Calibration adjustments to optimise consistent print output. (This adjustment is only available for iPF 5100 / 6000S/6100/6200/8000S/8100/9000S/9100/650/655/750/755/810/820 Series

If the Error Code does not clear after the print head is replaced, please contact your service provider for further advice. 


*The iPF Series warranty excludes PF01, PF02 and non iPF Series type printheads. For more information please contact your Service Provider.
