FAQ: Cautions concerning counterfeit lithium-ion battery packs and chargers.

Answer:

It has recently been confirmed that counterfeits of lithium-ion battery packs and chargers for Canon digital cameras and digital video cameras are in circulation. In addition, cases of rupture of which said counterfeits were considered to be the cause have also been reported.

Because in many cases the counterfeits are not equipped with protective devices that meet set quality standards, when they are used or charged, they can be the cause of:

  • product malfunction
  • generation of abnormal heat or leakage
  • ignition
  • rupture and the like

We are concerned that in the worst case, not only could products be damaged, but also fire, burns, blindness and other grave accidents could occur. Thus, to ensure safety, we are asking our customers not to use counterfeits.

Please understand that we will bear no liability for malfunctions or accidents caused by non-genuine lithium-ion battery packs and chargers, including counterfeits.

Recently counterfeits of Canon's genuine lithium-ion battery packs and chargers have been frequently circulating on Internet auctions. We ask that you take care particularly when purchasing these products through Internet auctions.

Canon's genuine lithium-ion battery packs have security labels, that indicate that they are Canon products, on their packaging. When purchasing battery packs, please refer to this information. Please refer to the below images for the labels.
