FAQ: Unavailable functions when using Digital Photo Professional or EOS Utility with EOS 600D / EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II zoom lens kits

Details:


We have discovered that for the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II included in the zoom lens kits of the EOS 600D, certain camera and application functions are not currently supported. Therefore, we are preparing software updates to provide support for this lens.

Once these updates are ready, we will make an announcement on our website.

Helpful Information:

Digital Photo Professional (ver. 3.9.x or earlier) and EOS Utility (ver. 2.9.x) do not support certain functions for the affected products listed below.

Affected products:
EOS 600D *1 digital SLR cameras, when used with the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II lens.

*1 The same also applies when using cameras released in 2010 or earlier with the lens listed above.

Solution:


By updating the Digital Photo Professional and EOS Utility applications for the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II lens, the following functions will become available:

Functions that are available in Digital Photo Professional:

  1. Peripheral illumination correction
  2. Distortion correction
  3. Chromatic aberration correction
  4. Colour blur correction

Functions that are available with the camera: *2

  1. Peripheral illumination correction

*2) To use these functions, you need to use EOS Utility to register the lens data.


Users are asked to update the following applications *3 for the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II lens. We are planning to make these software updates available for download from the Canon website from late August. Once these software updates are ready, we will make an announcement on our website.

  1. Digital Photo Professional Ver. 3.10.2 or later (for Windows)
  2. EOS Utility Ver. 2.10.2 or later (for Windows)
  3. Digital Photo Professional  Ver. 3.10.2 or later (for Macintosh)
  4. EOS Utility Ver. 2.10.2 or later (for Macintosh)
