Outside Broadcast, the Belgian based OB-Van company, recently recorded one of the biggest concerts ever performed in Europe: the Robbie Williams live at Knebworth Park in the UK. ... a 3 -day marathon attended by
125,000 people each night. To cover this mammoth event, Outside Broadcast used 16 Sony HD Cameras, a 30 metre Strada-Crane, a technocrane, a Jimmy-Jib, 3 cameras on a track, a steadycam - and one at the back of the venue on a 70 metre high
cherry-picker about 500 metres from the stage. At this vast venue, some of the cameras had to cover very long distances ... and here the Canon Digi Super 86 clearly came into its own. Timo Koch, commercial manager of Outside Broadcast says : "It was, without doubt, the most amazing spectacle I've ever seen. A perfect show ... performed by the world's greatest entertainer ... and a huge crowd wild
with excitement. For people who weren’t there, it is an experience that can only be captured with High Definition images." Outside Broadcast uses Canon lenses on all their Standard and High Definition cameras. "We carry the complete range - from the 11x Wide Angles to the Digi Super 86", says Timo. "Because of the reliability, robustness and minimal aberration of these lenses, we use Canon without question. We also appreciate the compatibility between all our SD and HD camera systems. When
we first decided to invest in HD equipment, Canon was also the first to supply a complete range of HDTV lenses. Moreover, we are very happy with the service we receive when we need extra equipment for large projects". In all, Outside Broadcast runs a fleet of 8 mobile production units; and recently began operating its second OB-Van in High Definition.
