Austria – Connecting People

The Connecting People project helps young refugees integrate into Austrian society through a mentoring program by local citizens. The project provides help and support to refugees while helping to build long-lasting relationships with the wider community.

Belgium – Youth Challenge

The Youth Challenge project is a series of camps that give children with disabilities and those from low-income families the chance to have a holiday. The camps are situated across Belgium and teach the importance of tolerance, unity and non-violence over 2,000 children in a safe and caring setting.

Denmark – Study Cafes

The Study Café project helps to increase the number of Denmark’s young people who go on to further education. The project is run in four major cities and offers basic education to those from disadvantaged communities with the aim to improve the quality of life for many of the country’s young people.

Finland – Emergency Shelters for young people

Emergency shelters across Finland provide a sanctuary for young people who are experiencing difficulties in their family lives. The shelters are situated in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Tampere and Turku and aim to increase confidence and help young people cope with the challenging circumstances they face.

France – Holidays for vulnerable children

Holidays for vulnerable children provides a way for disadvantaged children to come together in a non-threatening and safe environment. The project helps young people work on their communication skills through group activities to help boost their confidence and share their experiences and personal challenges.

Germany – Where is My Home?

The Where in My Home? project helps young people deal with racial intolerance and the feelings of isolation and loneliness that result from it. Through counseling and education, the project brings together teenagers from different ethnic backgrounds to foster friendship, strength and understanding.

Italy – Casa di Teddy

The Casa di Teddy program provides housing for parents whose children are receiving medical treatment in Italy, often for long periods of time. Families from Albania, Iraq and Lebanon are among the many who have been assisted through the program, which can welcome up to 1,300 children and their families every year. The program is vital in helping children stay close to their parents at what can be a traumatic time.

Netherlands – Holidays for young people with disabilities

The Red Cross holiday project helps build confidence young people with disabilities through group social activities. The project aims to make young people less vulnerable to social exclusion while giving them an outlet to share the issues they face.

Spain – World AIDS Day Campaign

The Spanish Red Cross World AIDS Day campaign is an annual event that helps support young people living with HIV and AIDS. By helping to raise awareness on how HIV is transmitted, preventative measures and treatments available the campaign helps to dispel the fear, ignorance and prejudice that young people living with the conditions face.

Sweden – The Responsible Person

The Responsible Person is a volunteer-run project based in the Swedish city of Malmo. It educates 10 to 19 year olds from across southern Sweden on human rights law and how to recognise when they are being infringed. The project also teaches the importance of respecting others to help increase social harmony between communities.

Switzerland – The Youth Fund

The Youth Fund project uses social activities to teach vulnerable young people the importance of respecting others and good moral values. The program currently works with over 300 young people throughout Switzerland and aims to instill a sense of responsibility as young citizens.

United Kingdom – Positive Images

Positive Images is an educational program that challenges the stereotypes that many young people have about asylum seekers and refugees living in the UK. By helping to change negative perceptions, the program encourages young people to take a more humanitarian outlook of the world around them, while working towards a more inclusive and harmonious community.
