Utagawa Kuniyoshi is considered to be one of the great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting, dominating nineteenth century printmaking in Japan alongside celebrated Japanese artists such as Katsushika Hokusai - best known for The Great Wave - and Utagawa Hiroshige. The exhibition will feature over 150 works, some never seen by the public before. James Leipnik, Chief of Communication and Corporate Relations at Canon Europe said: “As a Japanese company with a long history of supporting the arts, Canon is delighted to support this exhibition that shares and celebrates the traditional culture of Japan. We are passionate about the power of the image and are proud to be associated with one of the world’s finest institutions and one of the greatest Japanese artists, Utagawa Kuniyoshi.” Canon Europe's sponsorship of this seminal exhibition extends its strong history as a supporter of culture and the arts in Europe. Canon continues to support London's oldest orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Canon signed an agreement in February to continue its association with fashion for a further three years as principal sponsor of the Milan and London Fashion Weeks, and sponsor of Paris Fashion Week.
Canon is also a Conservation Partner of the World Wildlife Fund and committed supporter of European Red Cross societies.
