Canon HD brings extreme sports into sharper focus with Freestyle.ch

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, 7 August, 2008: Canon today announces its sponsorship of Freestyle.ch, one of Europe’s oldest and most highly anticipated extreme sports festivals on 26-28 September, Zurich, Switzerland.

Canon will be using the event to raise awareness of its ‘Freecording’ campaign – a campaign designed to change the way people think about camcording and encourage creativity and freedom in filming. The Freecording campaign supports Canon’s latest HD (high definition) camcorder range.

Freestyle.ch festival-goers will have the opportunity to learn how to ‘Freecord’ on Canon’s special ‘Xtreme’ stand whilst using one of the latest Canon HD video cameras – the Canon HF10.

Canon will also be working with two athletes competing at the event to help elevate the sponsorship, joining forces with skateboarder Juergen Howarth and snowboarder Reto Kestenholz.

Juergen Howarth, a professional German skateboarder and passionate enthusiast, has been perfecting his technique for 17 years.  He is one of the most skilled skateboarders on the European half pipe scene, winning top awards at prestigious competitions around the world.

Reto Kestenholz is originally from Zermatt in Switzerland. An extremely dedicated snowboarder, Reto is renowned for his ability and performance. One of many accolades includes being awarded second place at Freestyle.ch’s snowboarding finals in2007.

‘Drawing a diverse crowd of over 40,000 spectators and extreme sports and music fans, Freestyle.ch is an ideal environment for us to illustrate what Freecording is all about’, said Gregory Kukolj, Marketing & Communications Director for Canon Europe.

‘Canon is thrilled to be able to offer sports and video enthusiasts the chance to capture all the action in high definition with it new range of HD cameras’.

This activity builds on Canon’s European integrated marketing campaign around Freecording which was launched in May this year.  Most recently Canon worked with Parkour Generations, a leading team of Parkour practitioners, to film a video that demonstrated the spirit of Freecording.
