SilverFast SE is an advanced scanning software created by LaserSoft Imaging AG which is bundled with the CanoScan 9000F flatbed scanner. SilverFast SE features enhanced scanning functionality, intelligent automatic operations, and highly controllable color from a real-time “WYSIWYG” (What You See Is What You Get) preview. This gives more power to control the scanning process, reducing the requirement for post-scan image corrections and enhancing creative options for the demanding photo professional.

SilverFast SE feature Highlights: |
• Intelligent Auto-Adjust. Depending on the actual scene the image auto-adjust will make sure the image is correctly optimized regarding highlight, shadow and mid-tone. Another consideration is whether a color cast has to be removed or not. |
• Integrated QuickTime tutorials enable the user to quickly and easily understand and benefit from all of SilverFast SE’s functionality. Tutorials are available in all dialog boxes. |
• Infrared Smart Removal of Defects (iSRD®). The iSRD® is similar to but different from CANON’s FARE, an infrared-based Dust and Scratch Removal technology. In addition to being a fully automatic function, iSRD allows full user controllability regarding strength of the effect. The advantage of iSRD’s user control is to preserve crucial image details that may suffer deterioration from more simplified technologies. SilverFast iSRD also has a special preview to monitor the controlling of the final iSRD effect. Another advantage of SilverFast iSRD is the lack of deterioration (smoothing) of image details. Scans exhibit sharper details, no artifacts and retain more details of the film grain. Since iSRD technology makes full use of Multi-Core processors, the speed of scans with iSRD is significantly faster! This advantage can more than double the productivity of SilverFast for Canon scanners! |

| • Kodachrome slides: SilverFast iSRD can also apply dust and scratch removal even to critical Kodachrome slides. |
• NegaFix® provides advanced, intelligent options when scanning from a film negative. Control is available over film type, ISO speed and exposure level. A selection of approximately 120 film profiles is included. |
• Multi-Sampling eliminates image noise reliably. Image noise does occur quite often during the scanning process, especially in the darker areas of images. The CCD sensors are taking a very small amount of light here; this leads to “strayed pixels”, which are denoted as image noise. SilverFast Multi-Sampling® is able to eliminate this image noise by taking advantage of the strayed pixels’ random occurance. Multi-Sampling takes up to 16 single scans of an original and then calculates a final result, which is devoid of noise, and unaltered otherwise. |

| • USM (Unsharp Masking). Unique luminance sharpening tool with preview of the final sharpening effect. |
• Descreening tool for scanning of previously printed images to avoid Moiré Effects. SilverFast SE contains the descreening dialogue without preview, but with manual screen input. The two fully automated functions with auto screen detection are only available with upgrade version SilverFast SE Plus. |

| • Global Color Correction (GCC®) allows simple manual addition or removal of color casting. |
| • Selective Color Correction (SCC®) means that users can localise color adjustments to a specific color value, without affecting the rest of the image. |
| • Advanced interfaces for gradation curves and histograms give the user more power for setting and adjusting tonality and colour intensity. Instant feedback is provided via the real-time preview pane.
SilverFast SE is designed to enable any user to obtain brilliant results quickly and can be used as a stand-alone application, a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop (including PhotoShop Elements), or as a TWAIN module (Windows only). It is also possible to upgrade SilverFast SE to the more advanced SilverFast SE Plus or even the professional versions SilverFast Ai and Studio including fully automatic IT8 calibration and awarded SilverFast Multi-Exposure®.
