Canon partners with photo retailers to offer new DreamLabo 5000 premium photo album service

London, UK, 17 September 2012 - Canon Europe today announces the introduction of a new premium photo album service to be piloted by specialist photo groups Ringfoto and Europafoto. The service is designed to showcase the capabilities of the DreamLabo 5000 and will be provided by Canon in parallel with its B2B direct sales of the commercial inkjet printer. Specialist retailers to offer their customers Canon-quality photo albums that have been produced at the highest possible standard by the latest printing technology.

Canon-quality prints, uninterrupted viewing
First unveiled in 2011, the DreamLabo 5000 started shipping in Spring 2012 and employs Canon's acclaimed FINE print head technology to achieve superior quality prints quickly and efficiently.

FINE print head technology places identical micro-sized ink droplets of the seven different dye-based inks accurately on the page to provide smooth, rich tones and vivid colours.  A newly-developed straight-line print head also offers unrivalled colour reproduction and quality that can comprehensively surpass silver-halide prints, setting a new quality standard for photo albums of up to 25 inches in width.

In order to offer consistency of service and quality, Canon will manage the process from start to finish; from the front-end image layout software, through to the printing and binding of the final book at Canon’s European Photo Lab showroom in Giessen, Germany. In order to ensure all images are presented to their best effect, the photo albums will feature ‘lay flat’ style binding, an increasingly popular segment of the photo album market. Unlike traditional perfect binding, full lay flat photo albums offer the customer an uninterrupted view of their image across a double page spread.

Service to be offered to consumers by pioneer retail partners
The sales and marketing of the new photo album service will be managed by selected photo retailers, Ringfoto and Europafoto, both of whom are already established Canon partners within the digital camera domain.

Expanded paper offerings for high-quality output
To complement its B2B direct sales of the DreamLabo 5000, Canon today also announces three new papers including single-sided Metallic-Silky, double-sided Glossy paper, and a single-sided Luster paper, all designed to produce superb quality in photo albums and catalogues.

Ideal for the pages of premium photo albums, the Metallic-Silky paper enhances the colour of the prints, while the Glossy paper accentuates rich contrast and realistic colours, excellent for printing double-side photo album pages. The new Luster paper offers a single side alternative to the current Double Side Luster paper, and is the perfect media for professional photographic prints used in photo albums.

Examples of the premium photo albums will be showcased at Photokina 2012 and will be promoted in conjunction with DreamLabo 5000
