London, 1 February, 2012 — Canon Europe, world-leader in imaging solutions, will be previewing two new products at the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) in Abu Dhabi: the Canon OCT-HS100, the world’s first truly Full Auto OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), and the new Canon RK-F2 Full Auto Ref-Keratometer.
The OCT-HS100 is the first Canon branded OCT to be launched following Canon’s acquisition of Optopol, a producer of innovative diagnostics equipment for ophthalmology, in December 2009. The OCT-HS100 is an extremely compact device, with many automatic functions to enable fast, non-invasive and non-contact examination of the retina or cornea. Ophthalmologists simply align the device with the pupil and the advanced intelligent automatic operation take over, providing high resolution, high quality scans in a matter of seconds.
Yoshiyuki Masuko, Senior Director, Medical Imaging Group, Canon Europe says: “This innovative ophthalmic instrument combines Optopol’s OCT design and high resolution technology and Canon’s image quality and optical expertise, marking another step towards our goal of becoming number one in the world for comprehensive ophthalmic diagnostic equipment.”
In addition, Canon will be previewing the new RK-F2 Full Auto Ref-Keratometer at the WOC. Reflecting Canon’s longstanding experience in ophthalmic measurement equipment, Canon’s sixth generation Auto Ref-Keratometer is extremely compact and lightweight, offering an advanced fully automatic alignment and measurement system.
The new unit is simple to use and equipped with a tilting LCD screen that allows it to be operated either standing up or sitting down. After a short initial alignment, with just the press of a button, the full auto instrument will measure both eyes automatically and print out the results, helping to shorten examination time. It is also fitted with a retro illumination mode, a form of indirect viewing where light is reflected off the iris or retina to study the anterior structures of the eye, which can be extremely useful for indentifying cataracts and other serious eye conditions. The Canon RK-F2 also has extended connectivity for easy integration with existing practice management systems.
Both new products will be launched and available in the EMEA region during the first half of 2012.
Today, Canon's extensive line of ophthalmic diagnostic equipment spans cutting-edge digital retinal imaging systems, fully automatic Ref-Keratometers, Tonometers, OCT’s and Perimeters, as well as associated intuitive control software to enhance patient care. The complete Canon ophthalmic product line up will be on display at the WOC exhibition. Demos of Canon’s newly introduced instruments: CR-2 Plus, Canon’s Non-Myd digital camera with FAF functionality and TX-20P, Canon’s Non-Contact tonometer with pachymeter will also be on display.
