Carbon neutral

‘Carbon neutral means that – through a transparent process of calculating emissions, reducing those emissions and offsetting residual emissions – net carbon emissions equal zero.’*

Closed loop (material) recycling

End-of-life products are collected via a Canon collection system and materials are extracted by mechanical reprocessing at a Canon factory for use as raw materials in the manufacture of new Canon products/parts (not only for same products). These products are collected again at the end of the next use phase and treated in the same manner.

Duplex

Printing on both sides of a page; also known as double-sided printing.

Factory Produced New Models

An FPNM device is a new edition of the original model created from both new and existing parts. The original equipment is collected from the market, sent to a Canon factory and disassembled to the frame level. Disassembled parts are thoroughly cleaned and fully tested and every machine rebuilt then undergoes the same quality assurance process as a newly manufactured device and is guaranteed to be the same quality as and have the same performance as the original machine.

Recycle

Any recovery operation by which waste materials are reprocessed into products, materials or substances, whether for the original or other purposes, without changing their material configuration. It includes the reprocessing of organic material but does not include energy recovery and the reprocessing into materials that are to be used as fuels or for backfilling operations.

Refurbish

Products are returned to a Canon factory or local Canon site for refurbishment, which requires a low level of work (e.g. replacement of parts for preventative maintenance) to return the product to a suitable condition for resale/ lease.

  Top

Re-use

Any operation by which products or components that are not waste are used again for the same purpose for which they were conceived.
