Membrane Switch Overlay: Design freedom for customers and lower costs for you

While your competitors are still busy preparing films, screens and inks, you could already be shipping your first production run.

UV flatbed printing on true flatbed architecture is ideally suited to the digital production of membrane switch overlays (MSOs) as run lengths of jobs get increasingly shorter and customers demand faster delivery times. There are no screens and inks to prepare, as well as no press set-up time, eliminating these steps and, importantly for you, the associated costs.

By adding digital printing to your service portfolio, your customers are given a competitive advantage by enabling them to use any combination of colours beyond the limits of the five or six found in screen printing. Additionally this opens up new opportunities for you to accept short-run jobs that cannot be produced economically using traditional screen printing.

With true flatbed architecture – whereby the substrate is held stationary by means of a vacuum table – the printer can be left to run a job unattended, freeing up operators to work on other projects, which further reduces job costs and improves productivity.

Technologies such as the Océ Arizona Series allows you the flexibility to produce MSOs using either fully digital or hybrid processes, tailored to best suit the needs of your customers. For more demanding MSO jobs it may be more beneficial to use a hybrid approach – printing coloured layers digitally and finish the overlays on the screen press.

As well as cost savings, quicker delivery times and the ability to produce real-life prototypes, there is an environmental benefit to digitally printed MSOs too by reducing energy usage, emissions and ink waste.
