Canon Europe releases Office Insights 2016 Report: High-growth markets embracing digital transformation

London, 27 April 2016 – Canon Europe, world leader in imaging solutions, today revealed its Office Insights 2016 report which aims to highlight the impact of document handling technology in high-growth markets across Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, the Middle East and Africa. The in-depth analysis of 1,000 business decision-makers and end-users in 10 key countries revealed a trend towards digitisation, and a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Key Findings

  • 53% of all documents handled and managed in the office are digitised
  • 59% of office workers scan more documents today than three years previously
  • 57% of office workers print more documents today than three years previously
  • 66% of decision-makers view document scanning as critical or very important to their business
  • 78% of decision-makers view document printing as essential or very important to their business

“It is clear from this research that print and other document processing technologies are very much at the heart of business operations across these dynamic and rapidly shifting markets,” commented Matthew Wrighton, B2B Sales & Marketing Director, Emerging Markets, Canon Europe. “These trends look set to continue for the foreseeable future, and our report demonstrates that high-growth markets are the best placed to handle the changing landscape. Unencumbered by legacy IT systems, these markets can be more agile and quick to take up new technologies that can increase efficiencies and productivity.”

While the research raises the benefits document processing technology offers businesses, it also identified several complex business challenges across all of the different regions, specifically around cost, security and the new office technologies:

  • Security concerns are holding back the deployment of cloud and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) solutions
  • Half of respondents expect the amount they spend on printing, copying and scanning devices and software to increase, or remain the same, over the next three years
  • There is a central concern around losing sensitive printed documents (23%)
