Up to 195fps full-resolution continuous shooting

Firmware V1.21 adds Custom High-Speed Shooting Mode, which allows the rate of continuous shooting to be extended beyond 30fps – all the way to a blistering 195fps. 1 That’s perfect for revealing hidden details in fast-moving objects, which would otherwise be invisible on a conventional timescale.

The frame rate can be set in steps between 30fps and 195fps, and the number of frames captured in a single burst from two to 50, using the camera’s menu. Full resolution JPEG, HEIF and RAW files can all be shot in this way, giving you the flexibility you need, however you like to work.

240p Full HD video

Alongside the EOS R3’s stunning 4K and 6K options, Firmware V1.21 brings Full HD capture at a super-fast 240p frame rate – ideal for silky smooth slow-motion effects that reveal the precise detail in fast-moving subjects.

In-camera depth compositing

When depth of field is shallow, the EOS R3 can automatically vary focus from near to far while capturing a sequence of images. When these frames are blended together, the result is perfect depth of field for the scene.

With Firmware update V1.21, this image sequence can now be merged in-camera, creating a perfect ready-to-go result. The feature can also be used as an on-location preview of what can be achieved later in post-production, giving you the confidence that you have what you need.

Depth compositing is great for shooting close up or macro work, when depth of field is limited. It also allows photographers to reduce time spent post-processing images from multiple frames and lets them achieve a result quickly in-camera.

RAW file processing in the cloud

For the ultimate in image quality, Firmware update V1.21 makes it possible to upload RAW files to the image.canon cloud for processing.

From here, they can be turned into HEIF or JPEG files in the cloud, using deep-learning demosaicing and High ISO Noise reduction algorithms. The results are stunning, with fewer artefacts in detailed areas and less image noise when high-ISO shooting.

Professional time-lapse movie recording

The EOS R3 is a great option for time-lapse sequences: set the camera to shoot images at intervals ranging from two seconds to 99 hours 59 mins 59 secs for up to 3,600 frames. At the end of the sequence, the images are combined to create a high-definition movie without the need of extra software. You can set up with confidence too: in the event of a power cut or battery exhaustion, the camera can carry on from where it left off once power is restored without the need to re set all the time lapse settings again.

After feedback from professionals shooting with the EOS R3, we’ve the added the option of a 1.6x digital crop or 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9 ratios to be assigned to one of the camera’s customisable controls. It lets you get closer crops of distant subjects without taking the camera away from your eye – ideal when the pressure is on and you want that perfect in-camera result to send back to your agency fast.
