Canon introduces new remanufactured range enhancing its circular economy offering

London, UK, 24th April 2023 - Today, Canon Europe announces the launch of the imageRUNNER ADVANCE ES Range - the latest addition to its established portfolio of remanufactured devices. Comprising of both colour and black and white options, the range is created using at least 90% used parts, whilst offering businesses the high-quality functionality of Canon’s popular imageRUNNER ADVANCE Generation 3 printers.

Cutting e-waste

The launch marks another step in Canon’s goal to reduce its environmental impact and contribute towards the circular economy, by focusing on keeping parts and materials across its portfolio in use for longer. The new imageRUNNER ADVANCE ES Range supports this commitment with at least 90% previously used parts being used during remanufacturing.

The new ES range improves and builds upon the success of the imageRUNNER ADVANCE EQ80 range - Canon’s current remanufactured offering, which is built using at least 80% reused parts.

The ES Range comprises of three products - the imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5560i ES, C5560i ES+ and the black and white imageRUNNER 4545i ES, which are remanufactured at Canon’s dedicated factory in Giessen, Germany. Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE Generation 3 printers are deconstructed, rigorously cleaned, tested, and then rebuilt. Once strict quality standards have been met, these machines are then resold to customers at a lower price point than brand-new equivalent machines.

Sustainable solution for the hybrid workplace

Combining high-grade security and uniFLOW Online Express, Canon's integrated cloud print management solution, the ES Range supports on demand printing and helps ensure reliable and productive performance within today’s hybrid workplace. The design fits seamlessly into new and existing print fleets, helping businesses to expand in a more sustainable way - and with remanufactured accessories including an Inner Finisher, Booklet Finisher and Staple Finisher available, the range extends the life of products beyond just the printer.

Marc Bory, Vice President of Digital Printing & Solutions Marketing and Innovation at Canon Europe comments:

“We recognise the critical responsibility we have to limit our environmental impact and offer our customers a range of options including remanufactured, refurbished and new devices. One way we are addressing this is by contributing towards the circular economy by keeping parts and materials in use for longer.

“Our new imageRUNNER ADVANCE ES Range is made with at least 90% recycled, repaired and reused parts and is rigorously tested to ensure high quality levels. With built in functionality to help businesses drive productivity and deliver workflow efficiencies, customers can benefit from a superior device which comes with a full warranty, just like our new products.”

The ES and ES+ devices are available across select European markets now**.

**The imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5500 ES Range is available now across EMEA, except in the UK and Switzerland due to local market legislation.

Canon’s remanufacturing process

imageRUNNER ADVANCE Generation 3 machines arrive at Giessen, Canon’s dedicated factory in Germany where they are assessed to ensure their suitability for remanufacture. All remaining data is removed and machines are fully deconstructed before parts are put through an extensive industrial cleaning and re-assembling process. Devices are then rebuilt using a combination of existing and new materials before being tested to ensure that strict Canon guidelines are met - and that firmware and operating systems are up to date.

Canon’s refurbishment process

Refurbished devices are created by replacing parts which have been worn by use, before testing and resale. An example of a refurbished range is Canon’s new Certified Used (CU) Range - which allows for models including Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE Generation 3 and its imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX ranges (2020 models) to be refurbished in local markets with the support of carefully selected third parties. The initiative is being rolled out on a market-by-market basis across Europe throughout 2023.
