Canon EOS 6D Mark II In-Depth

Canon 6D Mark II Body with Lens

Canon has launched the EOS 6D Mark II. Featuring a host of innovative and state-of-the-art technical stills and movie advances, the new full frame DSLR has been designed to fulfil the needs of the freelance photographer and serious enthusiast on the move.

The camera is small and light, boasting exceptional image quality and stunning focusing thanks to a brand new 26.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 7 processor.

New 26.2 MP CMOS Sensor

For photographers seeking to make use of great dynamic range, lower noise and creative depth-of-field options, the new full frame 26.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor will encourage creativity, ensuring details are captured right across the image, from the brightest of highlights to the darkest of shadows. A high maximum ISO of 40,000 (expandable to ISO 102,400) ensures that photographers can keep shooting long after the sun has gone down and with in-camera diffraction correction plus the Auto Lighting Optimizer also on board, the EOS 6D Mark II is ready for high-quality images the moment it’s switched on.

Pinpoint accurate focusing – even in low light

When light levels drop, focusing accuracy becomes ever more important and, thanks to a formidable 45 all cross-type point AF system similar to the one found on the EOS 80D, the EOS 6D Mark II can focus accurately though the viewfinder down to -3EV, which is effectively moonlight.

The viewfinder optics on the EOS 6D Mark II have been completely redesigned, too. They feature a translucent layer of data similar to that found on the EOS 7D Mark II, which offers all the shooting data without obstructing the view through the lens.

There are various customisable focus options on the EOS 6D Mark II, and thanks to the power of the DIGIC 7 processor, this means that sharp and consistent tracked focus is maintained, even at burst speeds of up to 6.5 frames-per-second.

Exceptional full HD and 4K timelapse movies

For photographers wishing to explore filmmaking, the EOS 6D Mark II offers exciting movie options. With Dual Pixel CMOS AF and a Vari-Angle LCD touchscreen boasting 1.04 million dots, photographers can explore subjects in true cinematic style, using the LCD to perform smooth focus transitions. Precise subject tracking is assured even when using large aperture lenses, while in-camera 5-axis digital stabilisation means steady movies are easier to create, even when using non-stabilised lenses.

A Vari-Angle LCD touchscreen boasts 1.04 million dots, allowing filmmakers to see every detail when making smooth focus transitions.

For filmmakers looking to capture the highest quality timelapse movie footage, the EOS 6D Mark II captures sequenced shots of landscapes and star-trails in exceptional 4K, delivering beautiful movie transitions in stunning clarity. A built-in intervalometer further extends these creative options, allowing precise timelapse and hyperlapse capture to be programmed.

The needs of the more advanced filmmaker are catered for on the EOS 6D Mark II, which is why a Manual movie mode allows serious users full exposure and sound control. A 3.5mm microphone jack enables external mics to be connected, while built in stereo mics plus a wind-cut filter allow audio to be captured easily.

Connect and share easily

When it comes to connecting to peripherals, both WiFi and Bluetooth® options are offered. Bluetooth®1 compatibility ensures a constant connection to a smart device (such as a tablet or smartphone), allowing the user to activate WiFi connection without touching any of the camera controls. The EOS 6D Mark II also sports one tap connection to smartphone or tablet via NFC (Android only), permitting images to be easily shared to your chosen device via Canon's Camera Connect app.

For the photographer on the move, in-built GPS2 in the EOS 6D Mark II means that every location is mapped and captured, with all data embedded into the image file.

A camera designed to capture and perform beautifully

Canon engineers constantly seek and listen to feedback from customers of every ability. As a result, the EOS 6D Mark II has been designed to offer existing EOS 6D users a compelling reason to upgrade, as well as encourage a new breed of photographer to explore the benefits of full frame DSLR shooting.

This is a substantial camera for the enthusiast market and raises the performance bar in many key areas. To discover the camera in more detail, please click on the link here.
